Today is the day. No one has been able to clear the dungeon that has stood in our town for over a century as of the day I finally began the process of capturing it. They either died due to the town guardian or were overwhelmed by the creatures lurking inside.

So, what hope does a kid like me have of surviving it? Absolutely none, but that’s not going to stop me from achieving the goal that I set forth for myself. I need to capture as many towers as possible so I can finally settle a score that is 9 years old and counting.

I stood in front of the main office of our town named Asterisk. It acted as the central network for all activities in our bustling town and the place of registration for aspiring Tower Capturers like me. They kept track of the people who died in the tower or just went missing. It’s a pretty depressing task if you ask me, but someone has to do it.

There was a large group of people in the place already due to the news that the local lord of our fair town was offering a reward to anyone who could clear it. Mainly because after a Tower is cleared, it completely disappears as if it never existed in the first place. It is quite fascinating from an outsider’s perspective.

From what I heard, the reward is pretty much humongous, and I’ll be pretty much set for my journey if I do happen to snag it. So that’s just one more reason to try. After all, money is one of man’s greatest motivations, isn’t it?

After entering the building, I stood in one of the many lines that were formed. Looking at the office workers, one could see the tiredness on their faces. They weren’t used to this type of workload, but sometimes you have to work hard for your pay. The lines took a while to start moving again, and I finally got to the front of the line.

A cute female standing at roughly 5’6 with blonde hair that was neatly pulled back into a high ponytail, blue eyes, and fair skin. On her name tag read the name Emi. She leaned against her side of the counter and said, "Good morning and welcome. How may I be of assistance today?"

I tapped my right index finger in an attempt to seem cool while replying, "I'd like to enter the Tower."

Emi observed me in a concerned manner, then, with an equally concerned tone of voice, she said, "Are you sure? "You do look a little bit too young to make a dangerous request like that."

In a defeated tone of voice, I replied, "I am eighteen and I already know what I am getting myself into."

In the next line, a man who was seemingly listening to our conversation butted in.

"The Tower will eat you alive. The monsters there show no mercy, and the Tower guardian leaves no survivors."

He then showed me his arm, which was completely amputated from the elbow down, and said, "My friend pushed me out of the way and received his death so I could live. I did manage to escape, but at what cost? The Tower took my friends, my arm, and almost my sanity. An hour there felt like two weeks. Even the most prepared men lost their sanity, then soon their humanity."

Emi attempted to end the conversation by saying, "Alright, thank you for that."

Before turning around, he left me with a haunting question.

"Hey kid, if you are out of food and your companion is near death’s door, what would you do?"

After asking that question, he finished his business and left. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I would do if I was faced with that situation. I can either die alongside my friend or eat their body and live to fight another day.

Emi noticed my conflicted expression and asked, "Are you sure that you still want to go through with it?"

I kept quiet for a few moments, then muttered, "Yes."

She then handed me the paperwork and a pen to fill it out with.

Name: Dante Fullbringer

Age: 18 years old

Race: Human

Last Words:

I left it blank because I was unsure about what I wanted to say, and it’s not like there’s anyone left who will care about that. My loved ones are long gone like the wind. After I turned in my form, Emi gave me a half-smile and stamped it.

She seemed somewhat displeased with my determination to meet my possible early death. A few moments later, the paper was processed, and she handed me a small metal purple badge with the tower’s logo on it.

"Show this to the guards and they will let you through. I wish you all the luck in the world, Dante."

I thanked her and then excitedly left the building. After checking all my gear, which consisted of a bag filled with three days' worth of food and a short sword, which was in a brown scabbard on my lower back,

The only thing on my mind is to head straight into the Tower and begin the process of capturing it. A group of people were heading in the same direction as me, so I walked alongside them, but not too close.

Finally, we approached the Tower. It looked at least 60 feet tall with no windows, with only an entrance and exit. The outer walls were smooth, so there was no possible way for an individual to climb them. It's not like climbing it would do any good because of the lack of windows or entrance to the roof bit.

The two guards in front of the entrance to the Tower. It wasn’t your typical door, but more like a black hole, or a better way to describe it would be like a black mirror. The guards were checking our tower badges. Apparently, if you don’t have one, then you can’t enter the place. A few moments later, it was my turn, and I flashed my badge.

"It looks good, kid, but aren’t you too young?"

I replied, "I don’t think so" and placed the badge back into my pocket.

He then motioned for me to move forward, which I did. Approaching the entrance felt ominous. I wasn’t scared or anything per se, but the vibe that was being given off felt that way. I put my right hand into the black mirror-like doorway, and it went right through without any issues. I fully held my breath and went all the way in. The ground disappeared and I fell onto the lower floor of the Tower.

*Thud*

I rubbed the side of my head while observing my surroundings. It seems that I was in the middle of a thick forest of trees and the exit somehow vanished. Which only means two things, I may have to search for it, or I may have to clear this place in order to leave.

I approached the closest tree to myself and began to scale the tall living structure. I would guesstimate that it was 15 feet and stood on the sturdiest branch I could possibly find. The main objective right now is to find out how far this sea of trees goes.

Ah, just my luck, the tree wasn’t tall enough, but from what I noticed, they expanded quite a bit, so most likely, I may have to spend the night in the forest before getting too far. Also, when I think about it, I haven’t seen any of the people who came before or after me. Did we get dropped off at different locations? Hmm, I’ll have to confirm it later. Right now, I should be focusing on moving forward as quickly as possible
