As I continued to push deeper into the forest, I was starting to sweat a bit, and the sun’s hot rays weren’t doing me any justice either.

Huh, the sun? Did the tower create an artificial light source? Is it impossible for it to be the real thing, or am I just being ignorant to another possible way?

I walked forward in the forest, carefully observing my surroundings once again, especially at my feet. I would hate for a snake to be the reason my journey was cut short.

*Crunch*

My black leather boots stepped on some dry grass and twigs. Suddenly, I heard some rustling and a roar. I quickly gripped the hilt of my sword, which was still in the scabbard on my lower back and hid behind the nearest tree. I am not sure what made that noise, and I don’t want to find out in an unpleasant manner.

A bead of sweat ran down the left side of my face as I slightly stuck my head out in the direction I was heading and tried to pinpoint the location.

"AHHH-"

The scream of a man was cut short.

I instinctively pulled my head back into my head spot and took a deep breath. Whatever it was, it seemingly picked off a human with relative ease. Just what the hell is that thing?

I slowly made my way to the next tree, hoping that I wasn’t spotted by whatever that was. Unfortunately for me, the direction I was heading was also the same direction the sound originated from.

I kept moving and hiding behind trees while still crouching. I am being careful not to step on anything that could potentially make a sound and alert anything to my whereabouts. As I hid behind another tree, I leaned my back against it when I heard the sounds of chewing, followed by muffled screaming.

Crap! What could that be? Leaning my head out of my hiding spot once again, I saw it. The creature was a 6’0 wolf who stood on its hindlegs like a man. One can argue and say that it’s a werewolf. Its muscular, fur-covered arms must have been like four feet long and five-inch-long nails pinned the defenseless man down to the ground while the wolf gladly helped itself to another bite of the man’s face, this time tearing off part of his nose and upper lip.

I fully hid myself behind the tree and sat down. A part of me wanted to help the man, and another part of me told me to stay put. So, am I a coward for leaving the man to die? If I was in that same predicament, would someone come and assist me?

There were a few more howls. Like five or six to be exact. This is bad. I almost forgot that wolves moved in packs. However, things should still be fine. I can safely get out of this situation as long as this wolf doesn't alert any of them to my presence.

Sadly, the worst possible thing happened. The wolf next to me howled, which alerted the others to the feast that he was having.

Shit! If one of them spots me, then it’s over. I don’t have the strength to fend off even one of them. So, I waited until the wolf’s head was turned and made a break for it to a tree furthest from the area. I was banking on that these wolf men couldn’t climb trees and boy do I hope that my gamble pays off.

*Snap*

My foot snapped on something fragile. It was a dry branch. The creature to my presence was alerted and the man who was being eaten pointed in my direction with a part of his right index finger messing and shouted, "There’s another one!"

Shit! Shit! Shit! So, in an attempt to save his half-eaten life, he directed the creature’s attention to me. Damn selfish bastards.

Turning on the jets now, I increased my speed towards the same tree I was banking on earlier so I could possibly scale it to avoid being wolf supper. Before I could even reach halfway, there was rustling to the left of me.

Damn it! I couldn’t react to it.

One of the wolves quickly leaped into the air and tackled me to the ground. This is bad. I was pinned to the muddy ground and reached for my short sword, which I was ironically laying on due to the scabbard being on my lower back. So, I mustered up the strength in order to lift the heavy creature upwards a bit. I was not sure if it was just my strength or adrenaline, but I managed to do so and, in return, slightly elevate myself upwards so I could finally draw my blade.

My one and only saving grace right now. I tightly held onto the hilt of the blade as I quickly whipped it out and swung it.

*Chomp* *Clank*

Bright red blood splattered everywhere, and I let out a slight scream.

"Arghhh...." while I released my grip and the blade fell out of my hand. The wolf bit my right forearm in an attempt to stop the sword from cutting it. With my forearm still between its sharp teeth, I used my only free hand to punch the wolf on its head and snout in a desperate attempt to free my other hand.

It was no use; it kept a tight grip with its teeth and four more wolves were beginning to surround me now. So, this is how it ends for me, huh? I barely even lasted an hour here and now this is it....

I closed my eyes and finally gave up. I was ready to accept my fate as the foolish kid who tried to take on the Tower. I chose this place so it’s only fitting that I die here.

A few moments later, I heard the same wolf whimpering and something warm dripping on my face. I opened my eyes to see that the wolf had an arrow lodged in its right eye socket. All the wolves turned their attention to the person who shot it.

The mysterious person pulled the string of their wooden bow backwards and aimed another arrow towards the wolf, which still loomed over me with its teeth deep into my right forearm.

*woosh*

The arrow flew through the air as the stranger released the string.

"Multiple."

Instantaneously, the one arrow became five and hit the wolf, piercing its brain, and forcing it to release its arm as it tried to run away, only to fall over dead a few moments later. The rest of the wolves scattered after that.
