Chloe was a lot better at driving than I thought she would be, considering that this was her first time, but she was driving way too fast. I think her system was giving her a little bit of an extra hand. I guess that is what it was there for, but we were going to have to take this slow at first because the monsters around us were freaking me out!
There had been so many close calls already where Chloe would swerve or slam on the breaks, and I would go flying into the console or hit my head on something. This was getting ridiculous! We had only been driving for maybe half an hour, and my health was down by almost fifteen percent from all the impacts!
"Chloe!" I shouted as she narrowly missed hitting a monster with long tentacles that shot out toward us as we drove by. "I thought you said you were supposed to be good at this?!"
"I never said that... You just assumed," Chloe argued back, and I sighed deeply before pulling out my M16 to start shooting the monsters as she drove.
"Yeah, I assumed because you are the one with driving experience! This is your first time in a car!" I shouted as I started shooting. "Slow down a bit!"
"No! We need to get to the end so we can pass this test!" Chloe shouted back, and I just facepalmed. This girl was something else entirely.
We had been driving for maybe an hour before Chloe finally started slowing down, but by that point, my health was in the red, and I was getting pretty frustrated with this whole thing. If it hadn't been for my natural healing kicking in and some of the extra snacks that we had packed, I would have died a long time ago! As it stands now, though... if we keep going like this...I am going to die eventually!
"Chloe!" I shouted as a monster threw itself at the car, and she swerved to avoid it, and I blasted it into black smoke. "You are going to kill us both at this rate!"
"No, I am not! We just need to get through this test, and then we can relax," Chloe said, but I could see the sweat on her forehead. She was just as stressed as I was, but she wasn't showing it.
"Fine! Just hurry up and get us to the finish line!" I shouted back as I started shooting at anything that moved. This was getting ridiculous! How many monsters did one person attract?! It felt like every time we turned around, there was something trying to eat us or kill us in some way, and it was really starting to take its toll on me... Not to mention my ammo supply and energy!
I had been forced to switch out weapons a few times already because they were running low on ammo, and even with my natural regeneration of energy... There is only so much that you can do when you are constantly having skills used against things trying to eat your face off!
Eventually, we made it through the course, but not without sustaining quite a bit of damage to the car and to our health. I was down to about forty percent, and Chloe looked like she was about to pass out. The moment that we crossed the finish line, though... a message popped up in front of me.
[Congratulations! You have completed the ATV training course!]

I quickly hit yes before anything else could happen because I wanted to get this over with as fast as possible so that we could rest and heal up from all the injuries that we had just sustained! As soon as I hit yes, though... another message popped up in front of me… one that made my heart drop into my stomach.
[ATV Training is now complete.]
[As a reward for your dedication, you will be receiving an All-Terrain Vehicle.] Would you like it delivered now? Y/N?
"What?! No!" I shouted at the screen as Chloe started laughing hysterically next to me, but it was too late. The moment that I hit no, the car in front of us started to change and grow until it was a giant four-wheeler with huge tires! It looked like something out of a Mad Max movie, and I just stared at it for a long moment before Chloe finally calmed down enough to talk.
"I take it that this is not what you wanted?" she asked as she wiped away the tears from her eyes, still giggling softly.
"No! This is not what I wanted!" I shouted back at her as I opened my door and hopped out of the car, walking around to look at our new... acquisition. "I wanted a normal car, so we could blend in better!"
"Well," Chloe said as she also got out of the car and walked around to stand next to me. "It does have some good upgrades."
"What kind of upgrades?" I asked skeptically as Chloe started pointing things out on the vehicle.
"See how there are spikes on all sides? Those will pop anything trying to ram us, and now we can get off the main roads!"
"What about getting our health back up?!" I asked, but Chloe just frowned at me.
"My health bar is still full," She said plainly, and I groaned from my separate seat that was behind her and raised up. The placement was good for me to shoot while she drove, but there was nothing to protect me, and if we rolled, both of us would be dead.
"Well, I'm down to about sixty percent," I said as Chloe just shrugged. "And my regeneration is going to take a few hours before it's completely back up."
"Well, we can't all be as impervious to damage as I am," Chloe said with a smirk, and I just shook my head before getting into the passenger seat.
"Just drive," I muttered as Chloe revved the engine. It was way too loud for my taste, but whatever. As long as it got us where we needed to go without any more close calls... I would be happy!
